Rwandan Writers To Train In Ohio

Here’s an article I found by George Kagame of The New Times (Kigali) thought my readers might like to see it.

The Minister of Sports and Culture Joseph Habineza has encouraged young Rwandans to take up any opportunity to acquire more knowledgee saying this would help the country in recording down events for future records.

Habineza said in an interview with this reporter that Jim Wellis from Ohio in the U.S. will be conducting training programmes for Rwandan authors to promote book writing, he said the competition would help determine the most competent Rwandan writers going to Ohio in the U.S. for three months training stints.

The minister also said that Assumpta Mugiraneza a Rwandan living in France was also in the process of organizing a writing competition to select Rwandan writers to attend a conference on genocide writing due to take place in France, it was not possible to get a comment from Mugiraneza by press time.

Habineza said the writing competitions are important because they will help to encourage Rwandans to be less oral and become writers; Rwandans are oral not writers, we need to promote writing today because writing is a great future for many young people in the country.”
