The Edgar Awards

Last night (April 30) in New York, some of the biggest names in mysteries gathered to celebrate the 63rd Annual Mystery Writers of America Edgar Awards.

The ceremony crowned James Lee Burke and Sue Grafton as Grand Masters. The association named Blue Heaven by CJBox as the Best Novel; The Foreigner by Francie Lin won Best First Novel by an American Author; and China Lake by Meg Gardiner won Best Paperback Original. While I keep my ear pretty much to the ground as far as new authors are concerned I have to admit that the Edgar nominees were all unknow to me – maybe it’s because I live and work in Ireland. Did anyone else have this experience? It makes me quite curious to read this year’s Edgar winners — are these just wonderful sleepers the press never got hold of? And if so, why was that?
