Bristol Short Story Contest

Bristol Short Story Prize - an exciting, new, annual writing competition that offers writers a great chance to get into print. The Prize is open to all and entries can be on any theme or subject.

Stories can be on any subject or theme. The maximum length is 3,000 words, there is no minimum length.


20 stories will be shortlisted by the judges who will select the top 3 prizewinners from this shortlist. All shortlisted entries, including the winners, will be published in the Bristol Short Story Prize Anthology.

Prize Details for 2008

Cash prizes :

1st - £300
2nd - £200
3rd - £100

The Anthology will be launched and the prizes presented at an awards ceremony hosted by the Galleries branch of Waterstone’s in the centre of Bristol. This will take place on Saturday June 28th 2008 at 8pm. All 20 shortlisted entrants will be invited to attend and will be notified as soon as possible before the event.

Everyone on the shortlist will receive two free copies of the Anthology.

The top 3 stories will also be published in the Bristol Review of Books magazine.

Closing date for receipt of entries is 31st March 2008.
