An Inspirational Story

by admin on July 2, 2011

How often have you wondered is it worth going on, am I ever going to get published, am I ever going to get the recognition I deserve? That’s why today I’m bringing you what I think is a pretty remarkable inspirational story.

Thirty years ago Larry Rushton, now a semi-retired musician entered a talent contest run by Sir Paul McCartney. The song came second and lay unused in Larry’s home for over thirty year!.

On American Independence day the song, “It’s Cryin Time Again,” makes it debut on stage in the West End.

You can imagine Rushton’s surprise when he received the news that his song had won the new contest: “I didn’t even know the old song had been entered… my step daughter Gemma saw the show last year and loved it, then saw Don Black on the telly announcing they were looking for a new song to use for the show and wanted to do a national talent search, which is part of the story of the musical.

The story is now so much about how good, or otherwise the song but an illustration of the fact that something rejected, even thirty years ago, can have legs in it.

Get that old poem, story, novel out of the attic and give it a new lease of life. You never know.
