The WriteVoice 2009 Open Story Competition

Jul 15th, 2009 | By Kevin | Category: Competitions

The Open Story competition is to write a short story of not more than 7000 words and is open to anybody over the age of 16. You can use a theme of your own choice

Submissions must be written in English but can be entered from anywhere in the world. The competition is open to published or unpublished authors but the work submitted must not have been previously published. You can send up to five stories if you wish and the winners will be published online at this website.

The entry fee is £5.00 for each story submitted and the closing date for entry is 31st October 2009.

Here’s a few suggestions from the organizers: Your story has a much better chance of winning if it grabs the reader at the beginning, keeps them interested through the middle and gives them a satisfactory ending – Seems obvious? You’d be surprised how often these basic principles get overlooked! Grammar and spelling – check this carefully. Remember to work on a convincing plot and then let your imagination run wild. Good luck!
