Hemingway: Cash Prizes For Students

High school students can earn prize money by writing a short story as part of the Great Michigan Read Hemingway Writing Contest.


Writing prompt one is: Consider the impact of your surroundings here in Mid-Michigan. How does the geography and culture of your area affect your life?

Writing prompt two is: How do relationships influence your life as you journey toward adulthood?

The contest is open to mid-Michigan students in grades 9-12 living in Arenac, Bay, Gladwin, Gratiot, Huron, Isabella, Midland, Saginaw and Tuscola counties. Stories must be a maximum of 1,500 words; personal essays must be a maximum of 1,000 words. Entries are limited to one essay or one short story per writer.
